Edwin W. Fiedler, 86 of Swansea, died Friday, March 9, 2012 at his home. He was born October 18, 1925 in Belleville, son of Elmer and Rose (Fiedler) Fiedler. He married Marilyn C. Breiner on June 13, 1957 in Damiansville and she survives in Swansea. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Lynn (Steve) Muskopf, Alan (Susie) Fiedler all of Millstadt, Dale (Ann) Fiedler of Freeburg and Kent (special friend, Lana Denning) Fiedler of Belleville; six grandchildren, Kyle (fiancée, Kari) Muskopf, Eric (Andrea) Muskopf, Ben Fiedler, Olivia Fiedler, Taylor Fiedler and Kaitlyn Fiedler; a brother, Paul (Helen) Fiedler of Belleville and a sister, Marilyn Buss of Darmstadt; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lucille Fiedler of Belleville, “Nolly” Fiedler of Denver, CO, Lavergne and Julie Breiner, Betty Santel, and Darlene and Albin Toennies all of Damiansville. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters, Ardell Fiedler, Dorothy Wondree, Estelle Chandler, Delores Gass, James Fiedler, Lucille Sodam, and Elvira Fiedler in infancy; and brothers-in-law, Bob Wondree, Howard Chandler, Joe Gass, Ernie Sodam, Ray Buss, and Frank Santel. Mr. Fiedler was a brewer at Stag Brewery in Belleville. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in WWII in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the Silver Star. He was a member of St. Teresa Parish, Holy Name Society and Young at Heart in Belleville and the Mascoutah Moose Lodge #815 in Mascoutah. Edwin was an avid golfer, bowler, gardener and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Belleville with Rev. David Darin officiating. Burial will follow at Green Mount Catholic Cemetery in Belleville. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, March 12, 2012 and from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2012 St. Teresa Catholic Church in Belleville. Memorials may be made to St. Teresa Parish, for Masses, or to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be received at the church or Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden, who is in charge of arrangements.
