James E. Smith

James E. Smith of Hoffman entered into rest on Wednesday April 1, 2009 at his residence at the age of 79. Mr. Smith was born November 7, 1929 in Salem, IL the son of Merl & Eva (Donohoo) Smith. He married Bonnie Lantz in Yuma, Colorado on January 9, 1955.

James is survived by his wife: Bonnie; three daughters: Charlotte McMurry and husband Pat of Edmond, OK., Nancy Boldt and husband Les of Mt. Vernon, IL; Janie McDaniel and husband Joe of Fort Meyers, FL; a son: Kenny Smith and wife Valarie of Hoffman; a brother: John Schoonover and wife Diana of Salem; Twelve Grandchildren: Amy Mullen, Jared Mullen, Lance Boldt, Nathan Boldt, Rachel Boldt, Kari Bauer, Chad Gustafson, Stephen Smith, Whitney Smith, Courtney Goble, Kyle Smith, and Jordan Smith;
Seven Great Grandchildren.

James was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Joe Smith.

Mr. Smith was a member of Little Grove Christian Church in Walnut Hill. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, and achieved the rank of Sargent. James was an avid sports fan, he loved coaching as well as watching all of his grandchildren play. James loved golfing and to be around his family and his dogs.

Funeral Services for Mr. Smith will be held on Friday April 3, 2009 11 a.m. at the Frerker Funeral Home in Carlyle with Les Boldt Officiating. Interment will follow at Brick Cemetery in Ashley, IL
Friends may visit with the family on Thursday April 2, 2009 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and from
8 a.m. until the time of service on Friday. At the Frerker Funeral Home in Carlyle.

Expressions of sympathy my be made in Mr. Smith’s memory to the Nashville Christian Church in Nashville, IL or to the charity of donor’s choice.
