Radel, Elmer

Elmer George "Sonny" Radel, 80, of O’Fallon, MO, died Monday, August 17, 2009 at Garden View Care Center in O’Fallon, MO. He was born January 25, 1929 in East St. Louis, son of Elmer George, Sr. and Anna (Riedel) Radel. He married Rosella Jane Maxfield on March 5, 1954 in East St. Louis, IL and she preceded him in death on June 7, 2008. He is survived by a son, Steven (Michele) Radel of Defiance, MO; three grandchildren, Eric Radel, Brian Radel and Jacqueline Miller; a sister-in-law, Alice Maxfield of New Baden and nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his wife and his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Annette Schleicher.
Mr. Radel was a retired fireman in Spanish Lake, MO. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during the Korean War.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 20, 2009 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden, IL with Deacon Dale Maxfield officiating. Interment will follow at Greenmount Cemetery in New Baden, IL.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 19, 2009 and from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. Thursday, August 20, 2009 at the funeral home.
