Robert Hempen, 85, of rural Carlyle died Monday December 21, 2009 at the Carlyle Healthcare Center. Bob was born in Irishtown Twp. February 24, 1924, the son of Herman and Rose (Luebbers) Hempen. He married Joyce Hoffmann April 14, 1951 at St. Teresa’s Church in Marydale.Along with his wife Bob is survived by a daughter: Rita and husband Mark Rolves of Centralia; five sons: Deacon John Hempen and wife Kim of rural Carlyle, Mike Hempen and wife Denise of Pleasant Mound, IL, Dennis Hempen and wife Marla of rural Carlyle, Larry Hempen and wife Diane of rural Carlyle, David Hempen and wife Barb of rural Carlyle; three sisters: Evelyn Piazza and husband Rudolph, Pearl Richter, Marian Whitehead and husband Jerome; one brother: Donald Hempen and Wife Maxine; fifteen grandchildren: Leah Monica, Jeremy, Anna, Carisa, Carrie, Chastity, Brady, Kaylee, Ashley, Justin, Jordan, David, Kyle, and Jessica; ten great-grandchildren: Katelyn, Trevor, Megyn, Katherine, Alexander, Kyle, Zachary, Trent, Ian, Kya and a step great-grandson Derek; and two sisters-in-law: Joyce Hempen and Jackie Hempen.Bob was preceded in death by three infant sisters; three brothers, Adrian, Harold, and Lloyd; and a brother-in-law: Vince Richter.Mr. Hempen farmed all his life and was a member of the Carlyle Knights of Columbus, the Clinton County Farm Bureau, and former member of the Carlyle North Water Board, Marydale Parish Council, and Mater Dei Fathers and Friends.A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Hempen will be held on Wednesday December 23, 2009 at the St. Teresa’s Catholic Church in Marydale at 10:00 AM with Fr. Larry Nickels officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Carlyle.Friends may visit with the family at the Frerker Funeral Home from
