SSgt. Teddy G. “Ted” Scott, USAF, Ret., 78, of New Baden, died Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville. He was born March 7, 1934 in Springfield, son of Francis and Gussie (Frye) Scott. He married Johanna “Sue” Wimmer on July 6, 1956 in Basel, Switzerland and she survives in New Baden. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Michael (Michele) Scott of Greencastle, PA, Thomas (DeeAnn Byrne) Scott of Troy, IL, and Michele (Vance) Sanders of St. Louis, MO; five grandchildren, Jeremy (Michelle) Scott, Jennifer Kapp, Jordyn Scott, Courtney Scott, and Ryan Joseph Scott; five great-grandchildren, Layna Kapp, Gavin Scott, Addison Scott, Hayden Renth, and Kaylee Moss; a sister, Eve Taylor of Chillicothe, MO; a brother, Donald (Wanda) Scott of Bath, IL; and he is also survived by nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Miller; and four brothers, Harold Scott, Eldo Scott, Homer Scott, and a brother in infancy. SSgt. Scott served nine years in Europe and then also in the States with the Aerovac group; and also served in Occupied Austria. Following his Air Force career he worked in Civil Service at Scott Air Force Base for 16 years. Ted was a member of the New Baden American Legion Post 321, the New Baden VFW Post 3642, the Tulln Austria Air Base Group, and the AeroMed Evac Association. He was also a lifelong die-hard Cubs fan. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden with family and friends invited to preside and the American Legion and the VFW providing honors. Burial with full military honors will be held on Monday, February 4, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the New Baden American Legion or to the New Baden Veteran’s of Foreign Wars and will be received at the funeral home.
