Bernice E. Seibert, 84, of New Baden, died Sunday, October 19, 2008 at Clinton Manor Living Center in New Baden. She was born December 4, 1923 in Mascoutah Twp., St. Clair County, IL, daughter of Joseph and Berdelle (Sommers) Mattern. She married Wilmer Louis Seibert on October 15, 1941 in Mascoutah and he preceded her in death on May 29, 1983. She is survived by her children, Mary Lou Seibert of New Baden, Ruth A. Billhartz of New Baden, Wilmer J. (Terry) Seibert of Trenton, Charles L. (Helen) Seibert of Trenton and Bryan L. (Lydia) Seibert of Las Vegas, NV; nine grandchildren, Patti Billhartz, Dan (Jenny) Billhartz, Lori (Jason) Zurliene, Glenn Brendel, Sherry Brendel, Ricardo (Grace) Seibert, Yesenia (Adrain) Melgoza, Bryan (Stephanie) Seibert, Jr., and Ben Seibert; thirteen great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a grandson, Tim Seibert; three brothers, Alvis Mattern, Virgil Mattern and Eugene Mattern; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Virginia Mattern, Helen Mattern, Marie Mattern, Irene and Ferd Foppe, Alvera and Henry Schwarz, and Viola and Paul Micheel. Paul was Bernice's special friend following Viola's death. Mrs. Seibert was the owner/operator of B’s Beauty Shop in New Baden for 50 years. She was a member of St. George Parish and the Altar Sodality, the American Legion Post 321 Auxiliary, the New Baden Senior Citizens and a former member of the Mater Dei Mother’s and Friends Club. Funeral mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 25, 2008 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden with Rev. Eugene Neff officiating. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in New Baden. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, October 24, 2008 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Saturday, October 25, 2008 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden. There will be prayer service at 4 p.m., the Senior Citizens will visit at 5 p.m. and the American Legion Auxiliary will visit the funeral home at 7 p.m. all on Friday. Memorials may be made to the choice of the donor and will be received at the funeral home.
