Kathryn M. Sewald, 92, of New Baden, died Friday, September 2, 2011 at her home. She was born May 6, 1919 in Trenton, daughter of Elmer and Clara (Orschell) Beutler, Sr. She married Philip L. Sewald on November 30, 1944 in Lebanon and he preceded her in death on December 30, 1993. She is survived by her children, Phyllis Kunz of New Baden and Brad (Myra) Sewald of Mascoutah; two grandchildren, Lance (Kate) Kunz and Kim (Wally) Weaver; three great-grandchildren, Noelle Weaver, Allie Weaver and Olivia Kunz; a great-great-granddaughter, Aubrea Weaver; and a sister, Margie Kruep of Belleville. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Patty Sewald on October 21, 2006; three sisters, Lorene Hohrein, Dolores Benhoff, and Elva Benhoff; and a brother, Elmer Beutler, Jr. Mrs. Sewald was a homemaker and with her husband she also farmed in St. Clair County near Summerfield for 40 years. She was a member of St. George Parish in New Baden. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden with Rev. Gene Neff officiating. Burial will follow at St. George Cemetery in New Baden. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, September 5, 2011 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden. In lieu of all other gifts memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or to St. George Parish and will be received at the funeral home.
