Erwin John “Tubby” Albers, 90, of New Baden, died Monday, December 1, 2014 at Countryside Manor in Aviston, IL. He was born April 25, 1924 in Germantown, son of Herman and Elizabeth (Robke) Albers. He married Lorene “Blondie” Determan on September 19, 1945 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden and she passed away on December 2, 2014. He is survived by his two sons, Bradley (Phyllis) Albers of Albers and Glennon (Nancy) Albers of New Baden; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Lisa) Albers, Tami Albers, Amy (Andrew) Kaelin, and Jill (David) Jensen; step-grandchildren, Stacy (Kyle) Lentz, and Kim Dull; great-grandchildren, Drew, Emmett, and August “Auggie” Kaelin, and Nora and Natalie Jensen; step great-grandchildren, Benjamin Lentz, Charles Lentz, and Anderson Lentz; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Norman “Ponch” & Leona “Eb” Determan of New Baden, James & Rita Determan of Swansea, Janet “Jennie” Morris of Dover, DE, and Henrietta Albers of Germantown. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by two brothers, August “Gussie” Albers and Alvin “Abbie” Albers ; two sisters, Dorothy Haukap and Cecelia Duing; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Matt Haukap, George Duing, Minnie Albers, Helen K. “Honna” Determan, and Alice & Francis “Franco” Kiefer. Mr. Albers retired from Wilbert Vault and also played guitar for the Twilighters Orchestra for 46 years. He was a member of St. George Parish, the Midwestern Teamsters, and the Musician Local 175. He enjoyed dancing, playing cards, going to casinos, fishing, traveling, and playing baseball (where he was a member of the Clinton County Baseball Hall of Fame). Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden with Rev. Gene Neff officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in New Baden. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, December 5, 2014 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Hempen-Nordike Funeral Home in New Baden. Memorials may be made for masses, St. George Parish Cemetery Fund, or Mater Dei High School and will be received at the funeral home. Lorene Ann “Blondie” Albers, 89, of New Baden, died Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at Countryside Manor in Aviston. She was born October 10, 1925 in St. Louis, MO, daughter of Leo A. and Katherine M. (Toennies) Determan. She married Erwin “Tubby” Albers on September 19, 1945 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden and he preceded her in death on December 1, 2014. She is survived by her two sons, Bradley (Phyllis) Albers of Albers and Glennon (Nancy) Albers of New Baden; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Lisa) Albers, Tami Albers, Amy (Andrew Kaelin, and Jill (David) Jensen; step-grandchildren, Stacy (Kyle) Lentz and Kim Dull; great-grandchildren, Drew, Emmett, and August “Auggie” Kaelin, and Nora and Natalie Jensen; step great-grandchildren, Benjamin Lentz, Charles Lentz, and Anderson Lentz; a sister, Janet “Jennie” Morris of Dover, DE, two brothers, Norman “Ponch” (Leona “Eb”) Determan of New Baden and James (Rita) Determan of Swansea; and a sister-in-law, Henrietta Albers of Germantown. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by sisters, Helen K. “Honna” Determan and Alice Kiefer; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Francis “Franco” Kiefer, Dorothy & Matt Haukap, Alvin “Abbie” Albers, Cecelia & George Duing, and August “Gussie” & Minnie Albers. Mrs. Albers was a Secretary for Dr. P.J. Biedenharn. She was a member of St. George Parish and Altar Sodality. Blondie was a homemaker and she enjoyed cooking, dancing, playing cards, visiting casinos, and traveling. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden with Rev. Gene Neff officiating.
