Alice “Alo” Mary Maxfield, age 92, of New Baden, died Tuesday, October, 12, 2021 at Trenton Village Retirement Center. She was born February 27, 1929 in New Baden, the daughter of George and Emma K., nee Jung, Lodes, Sr. She married Calvin F. “Cal” Maxfield April 30, 1946 in New Baden, and he preceded her in death on August 3, 1989.
Alice is survived by her five grandchildren, Dale (Hannah) Maxfield, II, Sarah (Steve) Maxfield-Grote, Joseph (Hanna) Maxfield, John (Amber) Maxfield, and Mary (Melissa) Maxfield-Anderson; six great-grandchildren, Beatrix, Neil, Theo, Naomi, Anakin, and Alister; one brother, Ralph Lodes of New Baden; and two sisters, Mary Billhartz of New Baden and Becky (Don) Schaefer of Belleville.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her son, Rev. Dale Maxfield; a sister, Judy Ethridge; three brothers, George G. “Blackie” Lodes, Jr. and LaVerne W. “Hon” Lodes, Arnie (Anita) Lodes; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Bernice Lodes, Clarence Billhartz, Mike “Chick” Ethridge, Gert Lodes, and Ruth Lodes.
Mrs. Maxfield was a homemaker and a member of St. George Parish in New Baden. She enjoyed dancing (especially polkas), listening to music, spending time with her family, and coffee chats with her friends at Trenton Village.
The family would like to thank Kim & Rich Dumstorff, Shelly Ethridge, Sharon Schulte, and Steve & Barb Lodes for their devoted care of Mrs. Maxfield, particularly following her son’s death. We would also like to thank the wonderful staff at Trenton Village for always treating Mrs. Maxfield like family and Nurse Joy at Hospice of Southern Illinois for her kind and compassionate care these last days.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 16, 2021 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden with Msgr. David Darin officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in New Baden.

St. George Catholic Church in New Baden.
