Anita C. Wellen, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at Aviston Countryside Manor, at the age of 89. Born on December 23, 1934, in Germantown, Illinois, the daughter of William and Irene, nee Meier, Mollet. She married Alfred "Otto" Wellen, Sr. on February 28, 1952 in Germantown and he preceded her in death on February 15, 1989.
Anita dedicated a significant portion of her life to her career as a factory worker for Falcon Products in Arkansas, a role she embraced with diligence and pride. In addition to her professional achievements, she was a devoted member of St. Bernard Parish in Albers, where she found joy and fulfillment in her faith and the community around her.
Anita’s vibrant personality extended into various hobbies and interests. A lover of games, she often found joy in playing Bingo and Euchre, neatly melding competition with camaraderie. She particularly cherished the time spent visiting with her grandchildren and grandpups, sharing stories and laughter that would create lasting memories.
Anita will be lovingly remembered by her children, Michael (Jeannie) Wellen, Peggy (Clyde "Balls") Behrman, Curtis (Donna) Wellen, Connie Wellen, and Tammy (Bob) Toennies. Her legacy will also live on through her grandchildren, Shelley (Corey) Scott, Jamie (Travis) Jung, Kyle (Erika) Wellen, Sarah (Tim) Reyes, Heather (Jaden) McCown, Hunter Toennies, and Kari Wellen, as well as her great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy. She is survived by her brother, Ronald (Dianne) Mollet, and sisters-in-law, Edna Mollet and Paulette Wellen, along with several nieces and nephews who cherished their time with her.
Anita is preceded in death by her beloved parents; husband; son, Alfred Wellen, Jr.; daughters, Sharon Dumstorff and Barbara Jean Southard; her siblings, Shirley McGlasson, William Mollet, Jr., Robert Mollet, and Clifford Mollet; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, including Ed McGlasson, Alice Mollet, Mary Ann Mollet, Alphonse and Josephine Wellen, Eleanor and Urban Burke, Bernadine and John Schaeffer, Leona and Bob Singler, James Wellen, and "Bud" and Annie Wellen.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024, from 8:00 AM to 9:45 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Bernard Catholic Church, located at 202 North Broadway, Albers, IL 62215.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or to the Family Wishes and will be received at the church or Nordike Funeral Home, 15 E. Hanover St., New Baden, IL 62265 who is serving the family. Anita C. Wellen leaves behind a tapestry of love, kindness, and cherished memories, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
