Anna Marie Abernathy of Carlyle, Illinois died Monday April 27, 2009 at the Carlyle Healthcare Center at the age of 91 years. Mrs. Abernathy was born in Carlyle on May 9, 1917, the daughter of Emil Schroeder and Amanda Niehoff. On June 29, 1938 in Carlyle she married Gene Abernathy

Mrs. Abernathy was preceded in death by her husband; two granddaughters Dawn and Michelle Huene; two brothers Andrew Schroeder and Emil Schroeder

Anna Marie is survived by two daughters: Carolyn Huene and husband Jerry of Carlyle, Mary Hugo and husband Danny of Carlyle; three sons: Jerry Abernathy and wife Jean of Carlyle, Jim Abernathy and wife Judy of Carlyle and Tom Abernathy and wife Cindy of Carlyle; two sisters-in-law: Virginia Schroeder of Springfield and Esther Henry and husband Ken of Greenville; 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren with two more on the way.

Anna Marie loved crossword puzzles and playing cards, especially bridge. In her younger years she was an avid golfer. She was very devoted to her family and loved any activity that involved her grandchildren. Mrs. Abernathy was a member of the St. Ann’s Alter Sodality, the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, and the VFW Auxiliary.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on
Friday May 1, 2009 at St. Mary Church with Fr. George Mauck presiding. The interment will immediately follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Carlyle.

Friends may visit with the family at the Frerker Funeral Home in Carlyle on Thursday from 4 to 8 P.M. or on Friday from 8 to 9:30 A.M.
