Vincent F. Arentsen, 88 of Damiansville, died Friday, August 20, 2010 at St. Joseph Hospital in Breese. He was born December 25, 1921 in Damiansville, son of John and Anna (Kalmer) Arentsen. He married Florence Tonnies on October 21, 1952 at St. Damian Church in Damiansville and she survives in Damiansville. In addition to his wife he survived by his children, Marvin (Sue) Arentsen of Duluth, GA, Mary (Mike) Wagnitz of Chesterfield, MO, Jane (Mike) Strieker of Breese, Bob (Karen) Arentsen of Downers Grove, Karen (Matt) Ratermann of Aviston, Judy (Nick) Husmann of Breese, Jerry (Anita) Arentsen of Damiansville, Diane (Duane) Ripperda, Steve (Tina) Arentsen, John (Jennifer) Arentsen, Nancy (Brian) Mattson, and Donna (Al) Brauer, all of Germantown, and Ron (Leigh Ann) Arentsen, Gary (Kelly) Arentsen, and Kevin (Sheri) Arentsen, all of Damiansville; 32 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Helen Arentsen of Trenton, Helen Tonnies of Breese, Delores Tonnies of Highland, Vera Mullen of Shelton, CT, Elizabeth Dwyer of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Julie Stockmann of Aviston and Daniel & Myrtle Tonnies of Albers. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers & sisters, Sister Mary Damian, ASC, Rev. Edwin F. Arentsen, Otto Arentsen, Rita Rakers, Arnold Arentsen, Alphonse Olliges, and Frances Arentsen; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Aloysius Rakers, Dorothy Arentsen, Margaret Olliges, Paul & Lorine Tonnies, Fred & Gloria Tonnies, Ralph & Florence Tonnies, Virgil Tonnies, John Mullen, Gary Dwyer, and Jerry Stockmann. Vince was a life- long dairy and grain farmer. He was an active member of St. Damian Parish and Holy Name Society and a past member of Mater Dei Fathers and Friends. A funeral mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, August 23, 2010 at St. Damian Church in Damiansville with Msgr. Donald Eichenseer officiating. Burial will follow in St. Damian Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, August 22, 2010 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Monday, August 23, 2010 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Damian Parish or Mater Dei High School and will be received at the funeral home.
