Athmer, Norman

Norman E. Athmer, 77 of Aviston, died Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at Countryside Manor in Aviston. He was born December 2, 1932 in Mattoon, IL son of Frank and Mary (Gebhart) Athmer. He married Louise Lodes on October 17, 1959 in New Baden and she survives in Aviston. In addition to his wife he survived by a daughter, Cheryl (fiancé, Steve Arriola) Athmer of Fairmont City, IL; three grandchildren, Kyle, Nicole, and Ashley Koerkenmeier; one brother, Cyril Athmer of Breese; four sisters, Cleopha Lohman of Breese, Marilyn Hagen of Breese, Shirley Moss of Aviston and Donna (Jim) Elliott of Davenport, IA; a special niece, Joni (Athmer) Wilken; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister-in-law, Thelma “Timmy” Athmer; and three brothers-in-law, Eugene Lohman, Jerome Hagen, and Arnie Moss. Before his retirement Mr. Athmer worked in civil service as an inventory clerk. He was a veteran of the United States Army. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 28, 2010 at Hempen Funeral Home in Aviston with Rev. Dale Maxfield officiating. Friends may call from 12 noon until 2 p.m. Saturday, August 28, 2010 at Hempen Funeral Home in Aviston. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mr. Athmer’s grandchildren’s college fund and will be received at the funeral home.
