Paul F. Bann, 76, of New Baden, Ill. died Sunday, November 6, 2005 at St. Joseph Hospital, in Breese, Ill. He was born on February 15, 1929 in New Baden, Ill., son of James W., Sr. and Dolores A. (Kassebaum) Bann. He married Virla L. Garbs on April 4, 1956 at St. George Church in New Baden and she survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Steven W. Bann and wife Michelle of New Baden; two grandchildren, Allie Bann and Paige Bann; four brothers, Ralph Bann and wife Lucille of New Baden, Robert Bann and wife Betty of Marietta, Ohio, Carl Bann of New Baden, James Bann and wife Jerry of Earlville, Ill.; three sisters, Gloria Hebenstreit of Fairview Heights, Marilyn Sachs of Glen Allen, VA, and Susanne Chappel and husband Gerald of Milford, Mich.; and brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mildred Bann of New Baden and Ralph and Marlene Goldsmith of New Baden. Mr. Bann was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James W. "Bill" Bann, Jr.; a sister, Corrine Bann; nephews, Bob Bann, Rick Bann & Jim Davis; a niece, Debbie Hebenstreit; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Walter & Mildred Garbs; two sisters-in-law, Donna Bann and Ruth Ellen Bann; and a brother-in-law, Joseph Hebenstreit. Mr. Bann was a refrigerator and air conditioner repairman at Scott Air Force Base, retiring in 1984. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. He was a member and past Vice- Commander and past Sergeant at Arms of the American Legion Post 321; a member of the New Baden VFW Post 3642; former trustee of the Village of New Baden from 1972 to 1984; and a member of The Greater Carlyle Bowling Association Hall of Fame. There will be a funeral service at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 12, 2005 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden. Burial with military honors will follow at Greenmount Cemetery in New Baden. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, November 11, 2005 and from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Relay For Life or the American Legion Post 321 and will be received at the funeral home.
