Norma Baro-Heinzmann, 91, of New Baden, died August 2, 2014at Aviston Countryside Manor. She was born July 9, 1923 in Allenwood, NJ, daughter of Samuel and Florence (Gifford) Sherman. She married Bernard John Baro March 6, 1943 in Ft. Hancock, NJ and he preceded her in death March 30, 1979. She then married Herbert A. Heinzmann June 13, 1981 in New Baden and he preceded her in death April 14, 1997. She is survived by her children, Nancy Eichacker and Janet Matysik of Belleville, Barbara Stroud of Jacksonville, NC, John (Gloria) Baro of Aviston, and Steven (Paula) Baro of Shiloh; nine grandchildren; 13 great-granchildren; and a brother-in-law, Harold C. “Joe” Heinzmann of New Baden. In addition to her parents and husbands she was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Lewis Stroud and Thomas Matysik; her grandson, Kenneth Tucker Jr.; a brother, Theodore Sherman; and a sister-in-law, Flo Sherman. Norma was a personal secretary at Newhard, Cook, & Co. in St. Louis, MO. She was a member of St. George Parish in New Baden and loved playing bingo. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday August 6, 2014 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden with Rev. Gene Neff officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery in Albers. Friends may call from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Hempen – Nordike Funeral Home in New Baden. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Breese Lions Club Scholarship Fund and will be received at the funeral home.
