Bastian, Margaret

Margaret Marie "Peggy" Bastian, 80, of New Baden, Ill. died Thursday, January 5, 2006 at her home. She was born December 6, 1925 in Portage, PA daughter of Calvin and Goldie (Wertz) Richardson. She was raised by James & Margaret (McIntosh) Crum. She married Charles J. "Chuck" Bastian, Sr. on June 19, 1946 in Cumberland, MD and he preceded her in death on November 21, 2002. She is survived by three sons, Charles (Judy) Bastian, Jr. of Cornelius, NC, Jim Bastian of Chandler, AZ, and Thomas Bastian and wife Melinda of New Baden, IL; five daughters, Betty Hesek of Mesa, AZ, Jean (Jim) Cliatt of Laurens, SC, Carol Ann Wisnasky of Mascoutah, IL, Jackie (David) Engelmann of New Baden, and Jane (Gary) Yerace of Annadale, VA; twenty-three grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Crum of Portage, PA and numerous Nieces & nephews. In addition to her husband, her parents and her parents who raised her, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Thelma "Sally" Ibianski, Esther Gibbons, and Reba Kick; four brothers, Francis Richardson, Martin Crum, Jack Crum and Howard Crum; a grandson, Joseph Hesek; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, William Ibianski, John Gibbons, Clement Kick and Goldie Crum. Mrs. Bastian was a homemaker. She was a member of St. George Parish and the New Baden Senior Citizens. Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, January 9, 2006 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden, Ill. with Rev. Donald Blaes officiating. Burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, January 8, 2006 and from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Monday, January 9, 2006 at the funeral home. The Senior citizens will visit at 5 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to New Baden Senior Citizens or Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be received at the funeral home.
