Paul F. Benhoff, 81, of St. Rose, died Monday, July 16, 2012 at St. Joseph Hospital in Breese. He was born June 29, 1931 in St. Rose TWP, son of William and Wilhelmina (Tebbe) Benhoff. He married Jeanette C. Schrage on June 2, 1954 in St. Rose and she survives in St. Rose.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Matthew (Patsie) Benhoff of St. Rose, Marilyn (Alan) Schorfheide of O’Fallon, Steven (Margaret) Benhoff of Troy, and Debra (John) Elliott of St. Louis, MO.; a daughter-in-law, Deborah Benhoff of St. Rose; 12 grandchildren, Justin (Pam) Benhoff, Eric Benhoff, Ryan (Kim) Benhoff, Daniel (Amanda) Benhoff, Craig Benhoff, Paul Schorfheide, Alyssa Benhoff, Katie Benhoff, Mark Schorfheide, Mary Benhoff, Patrick Elliott, and Gerson Elliott; four great-grandchildren, Alayna, Mariah, Mabry, & August Benhoff and two more on the way; a sister, Agnes Kampwerth of Highland; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ray & Romy Schrage of Highland, Ed & Agnes Schrage & Mike Schrage all of St. Rose, Sister Mary Ann Schrage ASC of Belleville, Sister Angela Schrage ASC of Centralia, Marcie & Rich Hacker of Albers, & Barb & Frank Zologa of Highland; he is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Benhoff; two sisters, Dolores Pingsterhaus and Catherine Kampwerth; three brothers, Alvin, Robert, and Cletus Benhoff; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Alfred Kampwerth, Lawrence Pingsterhaus, Frieda Benhoff, and Joseph Kampwerth.
Mr. Benhoff was a retired Dairy Farmer. He was a member of St. Rose Parish and Men’s Sodality, St. Rose Development Club, Knights of Columbus Council 2869 of Breese, Catholic Fraternal Life, St. Rose Fire Department, and Mater Dei Fathers and Friends.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at St. Rose Catholic Church in St. Rose with Rev. Ed Schaefer officiating. Burial will follow at St. Rose Cemetery in St. Rose.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2012 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Thursday, July 19, 2012 at Hempen Funeral Home in Breese. The Knights of Columbus will pray the Rosary at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to St. Rose Parish or Mater Dei High School and will be received at the funeral home.
