Bernadine E. Meier, 88, of Albers, died Sunday, September 23, 2018 at Aviston Countryside Manor. She was born April 20, 1930 in Lively Grove, the daughter of Michael and Katheryn, nee Schulte, Buss. She married Linus F. Meier September 10, 1952 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Lively Grove and he preceded her in death November 10, 2014.
Bernadine is survived by her children, Geraldine (Edward) Haukap of Aviston, David (Linda) Meier of Nashville, Dennis (Peggy) Meier of Aviston, Jeanette Thole of Orlando, FL, Norman (Mary Pat) Meier of Shakopee, MN, Joan (Patty Pelikan) Meier of St. Louis, MO, and Paul (Lori) Meier of Trenton; 16 grandchildren, Krista (Keno) Davis, Adam Haukap, Erica (David) Blessing, Brian Thole, Kristen (Mark) Fitzpatrick, Jorden, Jared, Christopher, Amber, Garrett, Logan, Joseph, Jacob, Jared, Dustin, and Riley Meier; seven great-grandchildren, Brady & Mara Davis, Avery & Ari Haukap, Edith & Drew Blessing, and Mark Fitzpatrick; a sister, Mary Ann (Jerome) Heckenkemper of New Baden; a brother, Leo Buss of Breese; and sisters-in-law, Lucinda Scheiper of St. Libory, and Esther Dierkes of Germantown.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter in infancy, Kathleen Meier; two brothers, Gregory Buss and Norbert Buss; and brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert & Dolores Zurliene, Leo Scheiper, Cecilia Buss, Dorothy Buss, Antoinette & Lawrence Sommer, Gerald Meier, Eugene Dierkes, Mary Ellen Buss.
Mrs. Meier was a homemaker, seamstress, and a part-time assistant cook and custodian at Albers Elementary School; but her true calling and vocation was her family and friends. She was a member of St. Bernard Parish and Altar Sodality, and enjoyed playing bingo, quilting, sewing, and baking.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Albers with Rev. Anthony Onyango and Deacon Glenn Netemeyer officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery in Albers.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 26, 2018 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Nordike Funeral Home in Albers.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made for Masses and will be received at the funeral home.
