Berndsen, Hannah Marie

Hannah Marie Berndsen, age seven, of Breese, died Sunday, January 8, 2012 at St. Louis Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, MO. She was born March 25, 2004 in Maryville, daughter of Michael and Debbie (Horstmann) Berndsen. Hannah is survived by her parents, Michael and Debbie Berndsen of Breese; her sister, Morgan Berndsen of Breese; grandparents, Bob and Mary Agnes (Danehy) Berndsen of Breese; aunts and uncles, Michael & Cheryl Horstmann of Aviston, Daniel & Rachelle Horstmann of Breese, Brenda & Charles Scott of O’Fallon, Sheila & Matthew Clair of Collinsville, Sandra Horstmann of Swansea, Michele & Steve Huelsmann of Clayton, IN, and Maura & Kevin St.Jacques of Bothell, WA; cousins, Paul M. Horstmann, Mackenzie Horstmann, Caleb Horstmann, Alexander Horstmann, Cody Horstmann, Blake Horstmann, Dylan Scott, David Scott, Joshua Scott, Alexis Clair, Lucas Clair, Katy Huelsmann, Sarah Huelsmann, and Sophie St.Jacques. She is also survived by her God parents, Sandy Horstmann and Mark Berndsen and many great aunts and great uncles. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Paul and Dolores (Hemann) Horstmann; great-grandparents, Gene and Dorothy Horstmann, Edward and Marie Hemann, Robert and Sophie Berndsen, and Dr. Robert J. Danehy and Agnes Danehy Frerker; and a cousin, Allan Horstmann. Hannah was a member of St. Dominic Parish in Breese and an honorary member of the Clinton County Special Olympics softball team. On November 21, 2007, after much hard work and a tremendous amount of support from surrounding communities, a very successful fundraiser, "Hats off for Hannah" was held in Breese. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese with Rev. Ben Stern officiating. Burial will follow at St. Dominic/St. Augustine Cemetery in Breese. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2012 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Hempen Funeral Home in Breese. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Clinton County Special Olympics or to Community Link and will be received at the funeral home.
