Paul Berndsen, 91, of Breese, died Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at Caring First Nursing Home in Breese. He was born January 5, 1924 in Breese, son of Joseph and Anna (Emke) Berndsen. He is survived by two sisters, Dorothy Blair of St. Louis, MO and Leora Becker of Breese; a sister-in-law, Wilma Berndsen of Breese; and he is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings, Agnes Obermoeller, Edward Berndsen, Rose Robinson, Robert Berndsen, Estelle Wuesthoff, and Jean Heinsius; and brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert Blair, Ray Becker, and Sophie Berndsen. Mr. Berndsen was an auto mechanic and a lifelong Ford man. He was a veteran of the United States Army; a member of St. Dominic Parish in Breese, the American Legion Post 252 in Breese, and the UAW. Paul enjoyed bicycling; he pedaled many many miles. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese with Rev. Patrick Peter officiating. Burial will follow at St. Dominic/St. Augustine Cemetery in Breese. Memorials may be made to St. Dominic Parish and will be received at the church or Hempen-Nordike Funeral Home, 150 N. Clinton, Breese, IL 62230 who is in charge of arrangements.
