Beryl Durbin, age 90, of Carlyle, died at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese on Wednesday, June 17, 2020. She was born August 19, 1929, in Breese, Illinois, the daughter of William Roy and Gladys Mae (Taylor) Crocker. She married Richard Durbin on June 24, 1948, and he preceded her in death on October 7, 2019.
Mrs. Durbin is survived by two sons: Richard G. Durbin (Susan Lewis) of Colleyville, Texas, and Michael A. Durbin (Donna Troutt Pickering) of Benton, Illinois; two daughters: Laura Susan Durbin Peoples (Allen D. Peoples) of Grandview, Texas, and Tamara Ann Durbin Pate (William M. Pate, Jr.) of Carlyle, Illinois; one grandson, Hiley Sean Peoples of Irving, Texas; three granddaughters: Carrie Jo Durbin, of York, South Carolina, Rebecca Lynn Durbin of St. Louis, Missouri, and Amanda Jean Durbin of St. Elmo, Illinois; one great-granddaughter, Caitlyn Durbin of York, South Carolina and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Allan Ned Crocker; and a great-granddaughter, Catherine Durbin, in infancy.
Beryl was a member of the 1st United Methodist Church in Carlyle where she played the organ and was a member of the choir. She was a music teacher and also ran the Matthew 25 food pantry for many years. Mrs. Durbin loved building miniature doll houses, she had many on display at her home. In her pastime she enjoyed working on her family genealogy.
Mrs. Durbin chose to have her body donated to science for anatomical study. No funeral services will be held. Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle is serving the Durbin family.
