Betty A. Lee, age 84, of New Baden passed away on Friday, September 9, 2016, at Memorial East Hospital in Shiloh. She was born in New Baden on April 5, 1932, the daughter of Herman and Minnie (Determan) Kuhn. She married Philip Lee on February 11, 1956 at St. George Church in New Baden, and he survives in New Baden. Betty and Philip celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Lee is survived by two daughters: Nancy Penwell and husband Park of Breese, and Wendy Wagner and husband John of Mascoutah; three grandchildren: Guy Pennwell and wife Lori of Colorado, Sean Schaeferle and Danielle Schaeferle both of St. Louis; two great grandchildren: Chas and Milo Penwell; her brother: Ernie Kuhn and wife Wilma of New Baden; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her siblings; Florence Mueller and husband Buddy, Joseph Kuhn and wife Jane, Cornelius Kuhn and wife Marie, Dennis Kuhn and wife Janet; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Wayne and Mary Lee; as well as her father-in-law and mother-in- law, Ancil and Dixie Lee.
Betty was a member of St. George Parish in New Baden. She took great pride in the appearance of her yard and home. She enjoyed working on home improvement projects and tending to her flowers. In her younger years, Betty along with her husband helped coach many of her children’s youth sports teams, specifically softball. Betty and Philip were snowbirds for several years, spending many winters in Florida. Mrs. Lee loved spending time with her family and friends, especially when there was a good game of Euchre involved.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, September 12, 2016 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden with Fr. Gene Neff officiating. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in New Baden.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Nordike Funeral Home in New Baden and on Monday, September 12, 2016 from 8:00 until 9:45 AM at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden.
Memorial contributions in memory of Betty are suggested to the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate and will be received at Nordike Funeral Home, 15 East Hanover Street in New Baden.
