Marie C. Breiner, nee Wobbe, 88, of Damiansville, died Monday, March 3, 2008 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese. She was born September 14, 1919 in Damiansville, daughter of George and Mary (Luebke) Wobbe. She married Fred F. Breiner on October 21, 1941 in Damiansville and he preceded her in death on March 14, 1993. She is survived by her children, Janice Wheelan and special friend Art Kampwerth of Damiansville, Bonnie Breiner of Damiansville, Yvonne Breiner of Kampsville, Sue Winkeler and husband Dan of Bartelso, and Alan Breiner of Carlinville; five grandchildren, Ryan Wheelan, Ben Wheelan and wife Cindi, Danielle Winkeler, Kammi Winkeler, and Rudi Winkeler; one brother, Louis Wobbe and wife Ange of Damiansville; three sisters, Florence French and husband Durrel of Belleville, Stella Stempel of New Baden and Rena Haake of Germantown. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, John Wheelan, brothers and sisters, Elsie Netemeyer, Regina Thien, Edwin Wobbe, Dorothy Singler, Leona Toennies, Norbert Wobbe, and Alfred Wobbe; brothers-in-law and sisters- in-law, George Netemeyer, Vincent Thien, Ray Singler, Martin Toennies, Gene Stempel, Herb Haake, William and Bea Breiner, Elmer and Marcella Breiner, Frank and Mary Breiner, Theresa and George Rakers, Mathilda and Joe Diekemper, Emil and Frieda Breiner and Mike and Irene Breiner. Mrs. Breiner was a retired cook from St. Damian Grade School in Damiansville. She was a member of St. Damian Parish and Ladies Sodality, the Damiansville Chamber of Commerce and a former member of the Germantown Senior Citizens. Mrs. Breiner’s hobbies were gardening, playing cards, baking and cooking, dancing and socializing. A funeral mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2008 at St. Damian Catholic Church in Damiansville with Msgr. Donald Eichenseer officiating. Interment will follow at St. Damian’s Cemetery in Damiansville. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2008 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2008 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden. Memorials may be made to St. Damian Parish or Mater Dei High School and will be received at the funeral home.
