Effie M. Broeckling, 90, of New Baden, died Sunday, November 9, 2008 at Caring First in Breese. She was born September 1, 1918 in New Memphis, daughter of Frank and Rosella (Roseberry) Maxfield. She married Leo Broeckling June 26, 1937 in Carlyle and he preceded her in death on September 8, 1958. She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Alice Maxfield of New Baden and Henrietta Broeckling of Albers; and a brother-in-law, George "Sonny" Radel of St. Louis MO. In addition to her husband and her parents she was preceded in death by eight brothers, Bernard Maxfield, Samuel Maxfield, Clarence Maxfield, Herman Maxfield, Jim Maxfield, Willard Maxfield, Cal Maxfield and Frank Maxfield; five sisters, Ethel Hodges, Ella Mueller, Katherine Luehder, Marcella "Del" Berberich and Rosella Jane Radel; and a special friend, Virgil Keller. Mrs. Broeckling was retired from Day-Brite Lighting (Emerson Electric) in St. Louis, MO where she worked as a control clerk. She was a member of St. George Parish in New Baden. A funeral mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden with Rev. Eugene Neff officiating. Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery in Albers. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 11, 2008 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden. There will be a prayer service at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Minds Eye Information Service (Radio for sight impaired) and will be received at the funeral home.
