Dolores M. Brokering, 84, of New Baden, died Thursday, March 19, 2009 at Clinton Manor Living Center in New Baden. She was born July 7, 1924 in New Baden, daughter of Leo and Josephine (Kuper) Stempel. She married Maurice T. Brokering August 23, 1947 in Nashville, IL and he survives in New Baden. In addition to her husband she is survived by a son, Larry (Kathy) Brokering of Belleville; two grandchildren, Kristi (Randy) Emmons of O’Fallon and Michael (Sarah) Brokering of Granite City; four great-grandchildren, Kelly, Natalie, Luke, and Adam Emmons; one brother, Cletus (Fran) Stempel of New Baden; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Brokering of Salem, MO; sisters-in-law, Joan B. Ray of St. Petersburg, FL and Izetta Brokering of Shelbyville, IN; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Richard H. “Red” Stempel. Mrs. Brokering was a member of St. George Parish and a former member of the American Legion Post 321 Auxiliary in New Baden. She was a homemaker and housewife and took special pride in having a clean house and putting a good meal on the table. She was an accomplished cook and baker. Dolores was a devoted, loving, wife, mother and grandmother. Her life revolved around her husband, son and grandchildren. She was affectionately referred to as “Granmommie”. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, March 23, 2009 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden with Rev. Eugene Neff officiating. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in New Baden. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. Monday, March 23, 2009 at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Clinton Manor Activity Fund or Heartland Hospice and will be received at the church or Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden who is in charge of arrangements.
