Carol Joan Gehrs

Carol Joan Gehrs, 80, a resident of Aviston Countryside Manor, died Thursday, July 7, 2016 at Aviston Countryside Manor. She was born January 23, 1936 in Breese, the daughter of Leo and Estelle (Gouy) Goevert. She married Lewis J. Gehrs on January 25, 1957 in Cahokia, IL and he preceded her in death on February 17, 2002.

Mrs. Gehrs is survived by a daughter, Barbara (John Brannan) Gehrs of Bellbrook, OH.; two sisters-in-law, Pearl Musenbrock of Scottsdale, AZ. and Lily Day of Jacksonville, FL.; and she is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two sisters-in-law, Florence Austin and Lucille Gehrs; and brothers-in-law, Carl, Fred, Harry, and Richard Gehrs, Ed Musenbrock, and Gene Austin.

Mrs. Gehrs graduated from St. Dominic High School in 1954 and St. John’s Mercy School of Nursing in St. Louis in 1957. She was a Registered Nurse at Scott Air Force Base Hospital and St. Joseph Hospital in Breese. She was a member of St. Dominic Parish and was past treasurer of the St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese with Rev. Patrick Peter officiating. Burial will follow at St. Dominic/St. Augustine Cemetery in Breese.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of service Saturday, July 9, 2016 at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary or Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be received at the church or Nordike Funeral Home, 150 N. Clinton, Breese, IL 62230 who is serving the family.
