Charles "Craig" Hoffman, 65, of Carlyle, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by loving family on Sunday, December 1, 2024 after fighting a courageous battle with cancer, exemplar tenacity and determination throughout his journey. He was born on February 9, 1959, in Breese, the son of Charles W. and Genevieve M, nee Mayfield, Hoffman. He married Kandy Backsmeyer May 13, 1978 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Carlyle and she survives in Carlyle.
Craig dedicated nearly 40 years of his life to Hoffman Detailing, a career that allowed him to combine his passion for cars and motorcycles with his enthusiasm. For Craig, each day felt like an opportunity rather than a job, as he delighted in transforming and building relationships within the community.
Known for his infectious smile and boisterous voice, Craig's personality drew people to him. He loved socializing and exchanged warmth and kindness with those around him. His unwavering spirit was evident in not only his professional endeavors but also in the way he approached life’s challenges.
He leaves behind his devoted wife, Kandy, who stood by his side through every moment. Their family also includes his sons, Dustin (Amanda) Hoffman and Ryan (Rae) Hoffman, who cherished their father's guidance and love. Craig was a proud grandfather to Haleigh, Liam, and Cooper, who brought immense joy to his life.
Craig is survived by his siblings, Brad (Nancy) Hoffman and Heather Hoffman; and a brother-in-law, Gary (Jane) Backsmeyer, whose support and camaraderie were meaningful to him.
Craig was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Bernice and Carl Backsmeyer; and his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Peggy and Wayne Hackstadt, Diana and Chuck Struckhoff, and Greg Backsmeyer.
In honor of Craig, a visitation will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle, followed by a memorial service starting at 8:00 PM with Jason McIntosh presiding.
Memorials made in memory of Craig, may be made to Hooterfest or to HSHS Hospice and will be received at the funeral home.
Craig's legacy lives on in the hearts of his family and friends, who will always remember him for his courage, kindness, and zest for life. He touched many lives with his presence, and he will be deeply missed.
