Charles V. McDonald, 80, of New Baden, passed away Friday, July 21, 2023 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in O’Fallon surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 28, 1942 in Danville, PA, the son of Francis Patrick and M. Alice, nee Murphy, McDonald. He married Linda A. LaPage on June 6, 1964 in Syracuse, NY and she preceded him in death on August 4, 2017.
Charles is survived by his children, Scott (Sherry) McDonald of Albers, and Kelly (Rob) Ferri of New Baden; four grandchildren, Camren & Jace Ferri of New Baden, and Justin & Austin McDonald of Albers; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Sharon LaPage of Syracuse, NY, and Robbin & Bob Roser of Malone, NY; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary Alice Shuler, Catherine Ellis, Greta Campbell, Francis McDonald, William McDonald, and Michael McDonald; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Walter and Edna, nee Veivia, LaPage; and a brother-in-law, John LaPage.
Shortly after marrying the love of his life, Linda LaPage, the military relocated them to Scott Air Force Base in 1972, and they settled in New Baden. Charles was a past scout leader in Pack 34, Troop 34, and a Unit Commissioner for Okaw Valley Council. As a self-taught guitarist, he enjoyed playing several styles of guitars. Aside from his passion for playing guitar, his greatest joy was celebrating the accomplishments of his grandkids and family. He spent many days and nights helping family when needed; he was a big influence to many of his children’s friends and never met a stranger. And boy did he love his hockey! “Lets Go Blues!” Charles will be missed by all who knew him and will always hold a special place in our hearts.
