Msgt. Thomas E. Clagett, Jr., USAF Retired, 59, of New Baden, died Sunday, April 25, 2010 at Countryside Manor in Aviston. He was born August 12, 1950 in Baltimore, MD, son of Thomas E., Sr., and Frances E. (Scott) Clagett. He married Karen Aubin and they later divorced. He is survived by two sons, Capt. Cory (Kari) Clagett, USAF, currently stationed at Dover AFB, Dover, DE and SSgt. Ryan (fiancée, Erin Trumble) Clagett, USMC, currently stationed at Naval Air Station in Pensacola, FL; a sister, Cathy (Steve) Truman of PA; and a brother, William Clagett of MD. Mr. Clagett was anticipating the birth of his first grandchild, Connor Clagett in June 2010. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Clagett was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served in the Vietnam War. He retired as a Master Sergeant after serving 24 years. Following his retirement, he worked for the United States Postal Service in Mascoutah and O’Fallon. He was a member of the American Legion Post 321 in New Baden, and served as commander for 6 years. He was also a member of the American Postal Workers Union and enjoyed NASCAR. Memorial service with full military honors will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden with Rev. Gretchen Sterrett officiating. There will be a lunch at the American Legion in New Baden following the service. Friends may call from 5 p.m. until time of service Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at the funeral home in New Baden. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or American Legion Post 321 and will be received at the funeral home.
