Clarence “Doc” Burnett, age 83, of Carlyle passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese. He was born in Carlyle on June 15, 1936 the son of Earl and Hellen (Koester) Burnett. He married Bonnie Schubert at the First Baptist Church in Carlyle on June 29, 1957 and she survives in Carlyle.
In addition to his wife of 62 years, he is survived by his children: Jeff Burnett and wife Diana of Carlyle, Laura Friz and husband Matt of Millstadt, and Tim Burnett and wife Trisha of Beckemeyer; daughter-in-law Jean Burnett of Carlyle; grandchildren: Savannah Perry and husband Aaron, Alex Hipkins, Tucker Burnett; step-grandchildren: Amy Harless, Brandi Wooldridge, Jessica Wheelen, Courtney Thole, Chelsey Jones, Nathan Friz, and Victoria Friz; great granddaughter Poppy Perry; step-great grandchildren: Logan, Gabby, Leyna Jo, Payzli, Kayla, Cameron, Charles, and Taniyah; In-laws: Edna Naleski, Gary Schubert, and Don Schubert and wife Johanna
Mr. Burnett was preceded by his mother and father as well as his son Clarence “Little Doc” Burnett; siblings: Maurice Burnett and wife Jeanie, Clifford Burnett and wife Betty, Shirley Links and husband Kenneth, William Burnett, Helen Daum, Earl Burnett, and Armella Walgren and husband Sherman; In-Laws: Harold Schubert and wife Marguerite, Veryl Schubert and wife Emily, and Eugene Schubert and wife Corrine.
Doc loved scrapping and going to auctions of any kind. He worked at Alton Box Board before retiring. He also owned and operated Burnett Tree Service for nearly 20 years. He enjoyed being outdoors and watching westerns on television.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, December 23, 2019 at Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle with Rev. Matt Friz officiating. Interment will follow at Carlyle Township Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 8:00 PM on Sunday, December 22, 2019 and from 8:00 AM until the time of services on Monday at Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle.
Memorials made in memory of Doc are suggested to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and will be received at Nordike Funeral Home, 740 Fairfax Street, Carlyle, IL 62231.
