Cyrilda "Becky" Schaefer

Cyrilda Marie “Becky” Schaefer, age 79, of Swansea passed away surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, August 11, 2022, at her home. She was born on October 30, 1942, in New Baden, Illinois, the daughter of George and Emma Lodes. She married Donald H. Schaefer on November 27, 1963, at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden and he survives in Swansea.

In addition to her husband of 58 years, she is survived by her children: Douglas M. Schaefer and wife Kathy; Michael A. Schaefer and wife Michelle; grandchildren: Danielle, and William Adele; Abby, and Nate Fickas; Hannah Schaefer; Erik, and Emma Mathews; great-grandchildren: Emma and Carter Fickas; Mason and Sarah Mathews; her siblings: Mary Billhartz and Ralph Lodes.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father, and siblings: Alice Maxfield and husband Calvin, Judith Lodes, George “Blackie” Lodes and wife Bernice, Lavern “Hun” Lodes and wife Gertrude, and Arnold Lodes; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Clarence Billhartz and Ruth Lodes.

Becky was a member of St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church in Belleville where she was a member of the choir and employed by two agencies assisting challenged adults and children.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at St. Augustine of Canterbury in Belleville with Msgr. William McGhee officiating. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in New Baden.

Memorials made in memory of Becky are suggested to St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church and will be received at the church or at Nordike Funeral Home, 15 East Hanover Street, New Baden, Illinois 62265, who is serving the family.
