Dennis J. Rickhoff, age 81, of Albers, passed away on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at Mt. Vernon Healthcare Center. He was born in Breese on August 3, 1941, the son of George and Alvina (Lakenburges) Rickhoff. He married Jeanette Middendorff at St. George Church in New Baden on January 20, 1967 and she survives in Breese.
In addition to his wife of 56 years, he is survived by his children: Brent Rickhoff and wife Stefanie (Meyer), and Kurt Rickhoff and wife Mindi (Strieker) of Albers; grandchildren: Allison Rickhoff, Brooke Rickhoff, Reagan Rickhoff, and Carson Rickhoff; sister, Ruth Fritz and husband Robert; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Charles Huber, Marvin Middendorff and wife Cathy, and Doris Middendorff; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and twin brother, Donald Rickhoff; mother-in-law and father-in-law, William and Frances (Kassen) Middendorff; sisters-in-law: Mary Huber and Marcella Middendorff; brother-in-law, Clarence Middendorff.
Dennis was an aircraft mechanic in the United States Air Force Reserves and continued as a civilian working at Scott Air Force Base leading to his love for airplanes. Dennis and his wife, Jeanette started Rickhoff and Associates in the basement of their home in 1974, moving into an office in Breese in 1976. They operated the business for 38 years adding various locations; the business is currently owned and operated by son Kurt and wife Melinda celebrating 50 years this year. He was a member of St. Bernard Church in Albers; The Albers American Legion Post 1026, and Breese Lions. He served on numerous boards and organizations: Clinton County Board from 1980 until 1992, serving as chairman from 1982 until 1992, Albers Village Board, Albers Commercial Club, Missouri Society of Accountants, Southwestern Illinois Planning Commission, and Professional Association of Small Business Accountants. Along with community service he loved politic being selected as a Delegate for George H.W. Bush at the 1988 Republican National Convention and attended his inauguration taking the entire family in 1989. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan and loved to travel.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Albers with Rev Steven Beaty officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery in Albers.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, May 12, 2023 and again on Saturday, May 13, 2023 from 10 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Albers.
Memorials made in memory of Dennis can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and will be received at church or Nordike Funeral Home, 15 E. Hanover St., New Baden, IL 62265 who is serving the family.
