Dennis Russell Wilkerson, age 69 of Carlyle died Friday, July 8, 2016 at his residence. He was born in Breese, IL on November 18, 1946, the son of Charles Wilkerson and Aleane Wood (Clements). Dennis married Pamela Meyer on May 22, 1982 and she survives in Carlyle.
In addition to his wife, Dennis is survived by two sons, Mike (Val) Wilkerson, and Mark (Jessie) Wilkerson; three step-sons: Gene (Melissa) Albert, Chad Albert, and Shaun (Amy) Albert; a sister: Jennifer (Ray) Dial; thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren; as well as his mother-in-law and father-in-law: Charles and Dorothy Meyer.
Mr. Wilkerson was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Loren Wilkerson.
Dennis was a lifelong resident of Clinton County, an avid hunter and fisherman and loved the outdoors. He loved spending time with his family, especially his wife and grandchildren. Mr. Wilkerson proudly served in the United States Navy in the 58th Battalion “Seabees”, including two tours in Vietnam. Most recently, he worked at B-Line Systems in Highland before retiring in 2012.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 11, 2016 at Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle. Burial will follow at McKendree Chapel Cemetery in Keyesport with full military honors accorded.
Visitation will be from 4 until 6:00 PM on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle. Members of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 269 will conduct a walk through at 5:00 PM.
Memorials are suggested to Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 269 and will be received at Nordike Funeral Home, 740 Fairfax Street, Carlyle, IL.
