Donald was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Summerfield and in his earlier years, served on their church counsel. He was also a member of the St. Clair County Farm Bureau.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sharon Koenig; their bond was exemplified through the nurturing of their family, which includes their sons, Brent Koenig of Trenton, and Ryan Koenig of Burns Harbor, IN.; his sister, Carol Jean (Paul) Funkhouser, and took great pride in his role as a grandfather to Taylor (Devin) Haas and Courtney (fiance, Jacob Stone) Koenig; along with his great-granddaughter, Lucy.
