Dorothy Meyer

Dorothy Meyer, 89, of Carlyle passed away at the Breese Nursing on Tuesday, July 10, 2018. She was born in Irishtown Township on July 9, 1929, the daughter of William and Gladys (Potts) Johnston.

Mrs. Meyer is survived by her husband of 68 years, Charles Meyer of Carlyle; her children: Pamela Wilkerson of Carlyle, Dennis Meyer and wife Brenda of Donnellson, Mike Meyer of Donnellson, Steve Meyer and wife Joan of Carlyle, and Cindy Taylor and husband Jim of Carlyle; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren and Many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Gladys Johnston; 2 sisters: Betty Lou Johnston and Mary Kay Rhine and husband Rodell; two brothers: John L. Johnston and George Johnston and wife Mary Ann Johnston; her daughter-in-law, Janet Meyer; son-in-law, Dennis Wilkerson; granddaughter Tiffany Sue Taylor.

Dorothy worked at Basler Electric, and in administration at Myrick Nursing Home and was the Activity Director at Hillview Manor. In her younger years, Dorothy liked traveling to Texas and camping with her husband for the winter which they did for 15 years. Dorothy had many hobbies a couple included traveling the town and finding the yard sales and making crafts with her husband. She enjoyed sitting on her patio, taking in all that was happening in the neighborhood.She loved her family and was a thoughtful woman, she cared and loved very deeply.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 13, 2018 at Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle with Rev. Jason McIntosh officiating. Interment will follow at Carlyle Township Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 until the time of services on Friday, July 13, 2018 at Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle.

Memorials made in memory of Dorothy are suggested to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be received at the funeral home.
