Douglas Carroll Stidham, 81, of Damiansville, died Friday, December 23, 2022 at his home. He was born July 29, 1941 in Roda, VA, the son of Mack David and Ona Mae, nee Hill, Stidham. He married Ann M. Griffin May 23, 1964 in Bartow, FL and she survives in Damiansville.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Douglas Stidham, Jr. of Damiansville, IL, David (Mari) Stidham of Carlyle, IL, and Michelle (Jamie) Pittenger of Virginia Beach, VA; grandchildren, Jordan Stidham of Memphis, TN, Crystal (Nick) Bova of New Athens, IL, Candice (fiancé, Blake Gooding) Stidham of Southaven, MS, Chase Stidham of Nashville, TN, Jack Stidham & Jacob Stidham of Carlyle, IL; great-grandchildren, Juliet & Joselyn Davis, Isabelle & Andrew Bova, Nevaeh Rode, Reeva Gooding, and Mason Carr; and his siblings, Nancy Barnett of Appalachia, VA, Marvin (Traudi) McDonough of Tacoma, WA, Judy (Glen) Sizemore of Dryden, VA, Danny (Christine) McDonough of Indiana, and James McDonough of Big Stone Gap, VA.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a great-grandchild, Michael Carr, III; and a brother-in-law, Dutch Barnett.
Mr. Stidham retired after 28 years in the United States Navy where he received the Meritorious Unit Commendation, Expert Pistol Shot, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Navy & Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon. Douglas was an avid car enthusiast and enjoyed spending time with his family.
A Celebration of Life Service with full military honors will be held at 1 p.m. at the home of Ann Stidham, 213 Walnut St., Damiansville, IL 62215.
Visitation will be held Saturday, January 28, 2023 from 12 p.m. until time of services at the home of Ann Stidham, 213 Walnut St., Damiansville, IL 62215.
Memorials may be made to New Baden American Legion Post 321 and will be received at the family home or Nordike Funeral Home, 15 E. Hanover St., New Baden, IL 62265 who is serving the family.
