Douglas, Verna

Verna L. Douglas, 82, of Albers, IL, died Saturday, March 28, 2009, at Countryside Manor in Aviston, IL. She was born July 20, 1926 in East St. Louis, IL, daughter of George and Magdalene (Becker) Krause. She married Clifford L. Douglas January 23, 1948 in East St. Louis, IL and he preceded her in death on August 13, 1971. Mrs. Douglas is survived by two sons, Clifford Douglas and Steve Douglas of Albers, IL, and a daughter, Georgeann Walker and her life partner, RJ Loveless of Fairview Heights, IL; two grandchildren, Joann Schwartz of New Baden, IL and Janis (John) La Velle of St. Louis, MO; three great-grandchildren, Krystal (Devin) Barnes, Veronica Schwartz, and Joshua Walker; and a step great-grandson, Kyle LaVelle. In addition to her parents and her husband she was preceded in death by a brother, James “Bud” Krause and a sister, Lucille Meyer. Mrs. Douglas was a retired bookkeeper and a member of St. Bernard Parish in Albers, IL. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, April 3, 2009 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Albers, IL with Msgr. Donald Eichenseer officiating. Private interment will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family and will be received at the church or Hempen Funeral Home who is in charge of arrangements.
