Edith L. Delahunt of Carlyle died Monday, August 4, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family at the age of 76 years.
Edith was born in Highland, Illinois of March 3, 1938 the daughter of Elmer and Sadie (Koehler) Richey. Edith graduated from Carlyle High School in 1956 and was in the first class to graduate from the new high school. She worked for the Corps of Engineers for 2 years and also worked at the Dairy Queen, Yaegel’s and always said her biggest break came when a supervisor asked her “what are you doing here!” He had told her about Scott Air Force Base and it dawned on her that she had previously worked for the government. It was then that she started her career at Scott Air Force Base. She retired from Scott in October of 1998 after 29 years of service. She also worked at the Carlyle Wal-Mart during this time and retired again in 2000. Later in life she enjoyed playing bingo, but her true passion continued to be her family.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents; infant son: Robert Dean; and son: Marc.
Edith is survived by two daughters: Melissa Sturgeon and husband Don and Hope Delahunt, both of Breese, Illinois; a son: Larry Delahunt and wife Rachelle of Saucier, Mississippi; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren;a sister: Doris Warnecke of Indiana; two brothers: Sonny Richey and wife Barbara of Montana and Don Richey of Idaho; and many nieces, nephews and cousins
A memorial service for Edith will be held Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the Frerker Funeral Home in Carlyle with Rev. Earl Menchhofer officiating.
Friends may visit with the family at the Frerker Funeral Home on Saturday from 9 to 11:00 A.M.
For those wishing to honor Edith with a memorial contribution, the family suggests Celtic Healthcare or the Lupus Foundation and those will be received at the Frerker Funeral Home which is serving the family.
