Edward Henry Lampen, 85, a lifelong resident, retailer, community member and entrepreneur of Carlyle, Illinois, died Saturday October 6 2012 at SSM St. Mary's Health Center in Richmond Heights, MO.
Ed was born on February 25 1927 to Joseph C. and Mary J. (Hitpas) Lampen. He married Mary Jane Markus on January 6 1954 at St. Dominic's Church in Breese and was a devoted husband and father for 58 years.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents; and his sisters Sr Joel Lampen and Mary M. "Sis" Meyer.
He is survived by his loving wife Mary Jane and his three children, Joseph Lampen and wife Paula (Sheedy) of St. Louis, Chris Morrison and husband Scott Morrison of Mundelein, IL, and Kathryn Reising and husband Craig Reising of Liberty MO. Ed is also survived by his seven grandchildren: Sarah and Claire Lampen, Jeff and Tracey Morrison, and Lauren, Madeline and Faith Reising. Ed is also survived by his brother John Lampen of Breese Illinois.
Ed lived his entire life in Carlyle, a town he loved dearly. He took ownership of Lampen's Clothing Store in Carlyle from his father Joseph Lampen in 1954 and ran the successful men's apparel shop until his retirement on December 31, 1993. After retirement Ed was a proud member of the board of directors for the First National Bank in Carlyle from 1982 to 2002.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary Church in Carlyle with Fr. George Mauck officiating. The interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the Lampen Family at the Frerker Funeral Home in Carlyle on Tuesday from 6 to 8:00 P.M. or on Wednesday from 8 to 10:30 A.M.
Memorial may be made in Ed's honor to The Foundation Fighting Blindness or to St. Mary's Church in Carlyle, and those will be received at the Frerker Funeral Home which is serving the family.
