Edwin A. Bassen

Edwin A. Bassen, age 90, of Hoffman passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 in Hoffman. He was born on May 23, 1932, in Hoffman, the son of Martin and Edna (Sheverbush) Bassen.

He is survived by his children: Sherry Larson and husband Art of Portage, MI and Steve Bassen and wife Denise of Clemmons, NC, grandchildren: Matt Larson and wife Laura of Pikeville, KY, Rachel Joanknecht and husband Dwaine of Highfields, Australia, Marc Larson and wife Britt of Portage, MI & grand dog Cha Cha, Great Grandsons: Chase, Keenan, Micah, Dylan, Asher, Zachary & Isaac & 1 more grandchild on the way; his siblings: Ray Bassen, Roy Bassen and wife Jean, Carol Stein and husband Stanley all of Hoffman, IL and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, as well as his brothers, Clyde Bassen, and Harold Bassen in infancy; his sisters: Wilma Terry and husband Hugh, and Doris Atchison and husband Less; sister-in-law, Jacqueline Bassen.

Ed was a warm easy going, lovable and generous guy. He was well loved by family and friends alike. He loved to stay active and he loved life and creating things. He worked for many years as a very safe and hardworking truck driver. He was a devoted Father to his children and we remember with fondness the many wonderful family vacations and adventures that we went on together growing up. He and his son Steve spent many precious hours together restoring a beautiful 1964 Jaguar XKE.

When he retired he worked full time at his many hobbies and interests. He was a brilliant, creative man. His mind was always working to create, repair and design almost anything mechanical. He built remote control helicopters before kits existed. He even built a remote control full sized riding lawnmower that was quite amazing. He loved to watch auto racing especially when his son was at the wheel. He loved hanging out at his favorite restaurants where he made lots of wonderful friends. He loved spending time with his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by family and friends and we look forward to being reunited in heaven one day!

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 24, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoffman with Pastor Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Hoffman with full military honors accorded.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until the time of services on Monday, October 24, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoffman.
