Eilering, Vincent

Vincent H. Eilering, 90, of Albers, died Saturday, February 2, 2008 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese. He was born March 2, 1917 in Albers son of Frank and Anna (Stockmann) Eilering. He married Leona M. Fuehne on April 12, 1939 in Damiansville and she preceded him in death on March 14, 2002. He is survived by a son, Ken Eilering and wife Clara of Albers; a daughter, Sharon Mullenix and husband Paul of Albers; five grandchildren, Jamie Wheeler and husband Andy, Heather Lindsey and husband Andrew, Jason Stieg and special friend, Michelle Stein, Jennifer Wuest and husband Tom, and Janae Korte and husband Mike; one great grandchild, Brock Wuest; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Irene Hegger of Albers, Cletus & Rita "Butch" Fuehne of Damiansville, Frank and Bernice "Bim" Fuehne of Damiansville, Estelle Tonnies of Albers, Rosemary Spihlmann of Damiansville and Lu Fuehne of Bartelso. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Virgil Eilering and Benedict "Dix" Eilering and Adolph "Buck" Hegger; one sister, Bernice Book; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mary Eilering, Elisabeth Eilering, Ferd Book, Alfred Fuehne, Steven Fuehne, Norbert & Mary Fuehne, Mary Ann & Alvin Thole, Rich Spihlmann, and Vincent Tonnies. Mr. Eilering was a member of St. Bernard Parish and Men’s Sodality, Knights of Columbus Council 9768, American Legion Post 1026, all in Albers, and Catholic Fraternal Life, AARP and a lifetime member of the NRA. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he served during WWII as a combat engineer. He was a civil service employee at Scott Air Force Base for 30 years. He then worked as a security officer for Monterey Coal Mine for 10 years. A funeral mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 7, 2008 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Albers with Msgr. Donald Eichenseer officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery in Albers. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 6, 2008 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Thursday, February 7, 2008 at Hempen Funeral Home in Albers. The Knights of Columbus will visit the funeral home at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials may be made to St. Bernard Parish Building Fund and will be received at the funeral home.
