Estella S. Stempel, 90, of New Baden, died Monday, July 16, 2018 at Mar-Ka Nursing Home in Mascoutah. She was born December 15, 1927 in Damiansville, the daughter of George and Mary (Luebke) Wobbe. She married Eugene F. “Gene” Stempel on April 14, 1948 in Damiansville and he preceded her in death on July 15, 1991.
She is survived by her children, Donna (Dennis) Dressler of St. Libory, Sheila (Jim) McWhorter of Luling, TX., and Jeff (Jean) Stempel of New Baden; seven grandchildren, Dale (Jennifer) Dressler, Dawn (Alan) Reuter, Derek Dressler, Deanne (Tyler) Ross, Heather (Patrick) Juarez, Adam Stempel, and Megan (Corey) Swinney; great-grandchildren, Dean & Lauren Dressler, Grace & Josh Reuter, Macy, Addisyn, & Evalyse Ross, and Waylon, Tucker, & Jules Swinney; a brother, Louis (Angela) Wobbe of Damiansville; and a sister, Verena Haake of Germantown.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by three brothers, Edwin W. “Eppie” Wobbe, Norbert Wobbe and Alfred Wobbe in infancy; six sisters, Elsie Netemeyer, Leona Toennies, Marie Breiner, Dorothy Singler, Regina Thien, and Florence French; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, George Netemeyer, Martin Toennies, Fred Breiner, Durrel French, Herbert Haake, Raymond Singler, Vincent Thien, Mary Ann & Henry Rapisardo, Joseph & Jean Stempel, and Clarence & Helen Stempel.
Mrs. Stempel was a homemaker and a member of St. George Parish. She enjoyed quilting, playing cards, crocheting, and sewing.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Nordike Funeral Home in New Baden with Rev. Gene Neff officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in New Baden.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, July 20, 2018 and from 8 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Nordike Funeral Home in New Baden.
Memorials may be made for Masses, Hospice of Southern Illinois, or to the Alzheimer’s Association and will be received at the funeral home.
