Victor B. Eversgerd, 79 of Breese, died Sunday, August 8, 2010, at Countryside Manor in Aviston. He was born August 9, 1930 in Germantown, son of Herman Joseph and Mary (Diesen) Eversgerd. He married Loretta G. Winter Schurman October 24, 1964 in Breese and she preceded him in death on August 18, 2006. He is survived by four sons, Larry M. (Judy) Schurman of Carlyle, Gene F. (Linda) Schurman and Jim F. (Kathy) Schurman all of Breese, and John P. (Val) Schurman of Belleville; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a sister, Pauline Gerling of New Baden; and a sister-in-law, Rosie Eversgerd of Germantown. In addition to his wife and his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers, Bernard Eversgerd, Martin Eversgerd, Virgil Eversgerd and Arnold Eversgerd; two sisters, Margaret James and Eleanor Loader; two brothers-in-law, Victor H. Gerling and Orlin Loader; and a sister-in-law, Mary Eversgerd. Mr. Eversgerd was retired from the city of Breese Public Works Department. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of St. Dominic Parish and the American Legion Post 252 in Breese. A funeral mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday August 10, 2010 at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese with Rev. Patrick Peter officiating. Burial will follow at St. Boniface Cemetery in Germantown. Friends may call from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at Hempen Funeral Home in Breese. The American Legion will visit the funeral home at 10 a.m. Tuesday morning. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be received at the funeral home.
