Edna M. Foppe, 94, of New Baden, died Tuesday, February12, 2008 at Countryside Manor in Aviston. She was born September 24, 1913 in Engelmann Twp., IL, daughter of Joseph and Minnie (Graul) Walthes. She married George F. "Red" Foppe on August 1, 1962 in New Baden and he preceded in death September 13, 1973. She is survived by her children, Pearl Allen of Shoals, IN., Clarence Price and wife Ruth of Shattuc, Shirley Wessel and husband Arnie of Aviston, Norman Herzing of Damiansville, Norma Krohn and husband Don of Trenton and Paul Herzing and wife Judy of New Baden; one sister, Elsie Kebel of Mascoutah; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Allen Walthes and Joseph Walthes; two sisters Myrna Doebert and Anita Healey; brothers-in-law, Harold Kebel, Ervin Doebert, David Healey; and sisters-in-law Caroline Walthes and Jean Walthes. Mrs. Foppe was a homemaker. She was a member of St. George Parish and Altar Sodality and a charter member of the New Baden Senior Citizens. A funeral mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden with Rev. Eugene Neff officiating. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in New Baden. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2008 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2008 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden. There will be a prayer service at 4 p.m. and the senior citizens will visit at 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made for masses and will be received at the funeral home.
