Frank Pommer, age 84 of Beckemeyer passed away on Monday, May 29, 2017 at the Carlyle Healthcare Center. Frank was born on July 14, 1932 in Okawville, Illinois the son of Joseph and Minnie (Schulte) Pommer. He married his wife of 62 years, Shirley Grayling on April 16, 1955 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Carlyle.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Mark (Connie) Pommer of Beckemeyer; a daughter, Jeannie (John) Johnson of Gwinn, Michigan; six grandchildren: Timothy, Nicole, and Shaye Pommer, Rene Brindley, Mike (Brandy) Johnson, and Phillip Johnson; six great-grandchildren: Derby Pommer, Bella and Sean Tayloe, Mikayla, Brook, and Elizabeth Johnson.
Mr. Pommer was preceded in death by his sister, Flossy Becker and three brothers: Ferdie, Floyd, and Francis Pommer.
Frank was a veteran of the United States Navy and served in the Korean War. He returned home to work oil rigs and at the saw mill but spent the majority of his career working at Alton Box Board Company before retiring in 1994. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan as well as enthusiastic John Wayne fan. There was nothing more important to Frank than his grandchildren and his family being together.

Funeral services will be held at 6:00 pm on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle with Pastor Steve Sommerer officiating.
Visitation will be on Thursday, June 1, 2017 from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the charity of donor’s choice and will be received at the funeral home.
