Frieda A. Schomaker, 87, of New Baden, died Thursday, October 26, 2017 at Clinton Manor Living Center in New Baden. She was born November 12, 1929 in Aviston, daughter of Herman and Caroline (Kuhl) Wolters. She married Edwin Martin Schomaker in Aviston on January 13, 1953 and he preceded her in death on November 14, 2013.
Frieda is survived by her children, James J. (Darlene) Schomaker of Nashville, Mary Lou Schomaker of New Baden, Donald (Sherri) Schomaker of Germantown, and Geri (Jode) Hughes of Trenton; eight grandchildren, J. J. (Amber) Schomaker, Ross (Alissa) Schomaker, Andrew (Michele) Schomaker, Beth (Nick) Bohnenstiehl, Brad (Jessica) Schomaker, Ben (Jessica) Hughes, Becky (Tyler) Schubert, and Katie Hughes; 12 great-grandchildren, James III, Corbin, Carter, Everett, Charlotte, Adrianna, Meika, Lucas, Russell, Harvey, Jacob, and Katelyn; a brother, Ralph Wolters of Albers; and a sister-in-law, Bertha Wessling of Germantown. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Schomaker; six sisters, Catherine Gress, Dorothy Richter, Josephine Gunn, Cecelia Niemann, Bertha Horstmann, and Mary Louise Ratermann; five brothers, Fred “Fritz” Wolters, John Wolters, Joe Wolters, and Wilbert Wolters and Otto Wolters in infancy; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Martin and Jacobina (Kalmer) Schomaker; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John Gress, Cecelia Wolters, Richard Richter, Claude Gunn, Aloys Niemann, Charles Horstmann, Sylvester Ratermann, Pauline Wolters, Marie Wolters, Florence Wolters, Harry J. Schomaker, Ella & Elmer Rensing, Art Wessling, Norbert Schomaker, and Lorene & Herman Rensing.
Mrs. Schomaker was a homemaker and worked at Hill’s Bakery in New Baden. She was a member of St. George Parish and Altar Sodality, the New Baden American Legion Auxiliary Post 321, and Mater Dei Mothers and Friends. Frieda enjoyed quilting and canning.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 30, 2017 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden with Rev. Eugene Neff officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in New Baden.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, October 29, 2017 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Monday, October 30, 2017 at Nordike Funeral Home in New Baden.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. George Window Fund, Mater Dei High School Foundation, or the American Legion Post 321 and will be received at the funeral home.
