Gary M. Billhartz, 70, of Edwardsville, passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at University Nursing and Rehab in Edwardsville. He was born June 20, 1954 in Belleville, the son of Clarence and Mary, nee Lodes, Billhartz.

Throughout his life, Gary was known for his unwavering commitment to his career as a truck driver. His journey on the road was marked by both hard work and an undeniable passion for travel and adventure. He proudly served his country in the military, first in the Air Force and then with the Army, experiences that shaped his strong character and sense of duty.

Gary deeply cherished his hobbies, which included hunting and fishing, activities that allowed him to connect with nature and spend quality time outdoors. He loved listening to music, which sparked memories and stories, filling his home with warmth and nostalgia. Most importantly, Gary enjoyed spending time with his family, creating lasting memories that will be treasured by all.

He leaves behind his beloved mother, Mary Billhartz; his son, Derek (Amanda) Billhartz; his daughter, Melissa (Nick) Kamp; his cherished grandchildren, Cooper, Willow, Faye, Allie, and Aiden; his brothers, Brian Billhartz and Doug (Tricia) Billhartz; and his special friend, Mary Kay.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 11:45 AM, followed by a Celebration of Life at Nordike Funeral Home in New Baden.

Memorials made in memory of Gary, may be made for Family Wishes and will be received at the funeral home.
