Gilbert M. Miller of Carlyle died Monday, December 7, 2009 at the Carlyle Healthcare Center at the age of 86 years. He was born in Wade Township/Clinton County, IL on June 16, 1923 the son of Alvin and Teresa (Vandeloo) Miller. He married Louise C. Gross on July 28, 1951 in Beckemeyer and she survives along with two daughters: Karen Fischer and special friend Jim Theobald of Sun Lakes, Arizona and Marilyn Yoder and husband John of Mascoutah; two sons: David Miller and wife Mary of Carlyle and Jeff Miller and fiancee` Carla Murfin of Patoka; grandchildren: Toni Fischer and Husband Jim, C.P.O. John Yoder III and wife Stephanie, T.Sgt. Kyle Yoder and wife Christina, Nate Yoder and wife Sherry, Andrea Arter and husband Jeff, Jennifer Voss, Ryan Voss and fiancee` Jill, Jamie Diekemper and husband Mark , Ashley Miller and special friend Brian Monken II, Justin Miller, Kendra Miller and special friend Chad Garner and Hannah Bowerman; thirteen great grandchildren.Gib was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter: Jodi Lynn Miller, a grandson: Daniel Ryan Fischer; parents-in-law: Delmarr and Elizabeth Gross and Marian Gross; brothers-in-law: Leonard Gross, Julio Perez, Elmer Thompson and wife Betty.Gib was a veteran of World War II enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1942. He was a radio operator aboard an LST serving under MacArthur in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the Beckemeyer United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Holthaus-Kampwerth American Legion Post 1227 of Beckemeyer, the Goldsmith-Terry Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3523 of Carlyle and the L.S.T. Association. He retired from the B. & O. Railroad after 30 years of service. He enjoyed family and friends, especially his grand and great grandchildren and traveling.Funeral services will be Thursday at the Frerker Funeral Home in Carlyle at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Bob Souders officiating.
