Gill, Henry

Henry L. Gill, 73, of New Baden, died Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at Clinton Manor Living Center in New Baden. He was born January 30, 1938 in Conway, AR, son of Lea Roy and MaryLou (Hall) Gill. He married Shirley J. Hanna on July 27, 1958 in Sioux City, Iowa and she survives in New Baden. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Carol J. (Allen) Horcher of Belleville and Barbara A. Gill of Fairview Heights; one granddaughter, Amanda M. Gill of New Baden; three sisters, Esther (Charles) Wright and Delphene (Danny) Turner all of Conway, AR and Joanne (Jimmy) Bomer of Flippin, AR. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Jodi L. Gill on June 26, 2011; and a sister and brother-in-law, Phoebe and Bill Barber. Mr. Gill retired from Highland Machine & Screw where he worked in shipping and receiving. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was a member of the New Baden American Legion Post 321 and was a member and past commander and poppy salesman of the New Baden VFW Post 3642. Memorial services with full military honors will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, September 9, 2011 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden with Pastor Skip Leininger officiating. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Friday, September 9, 2011 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Lung Association or to the New Baden American Legion and will be received at the funeral home.
