Mary R. "Mayme" Goestenkors, 102 of Breese, died Thursday, January 7, 2010 at Breese Caring First in Breese. She was born October 13, 1907 in St. Rose daughter of Joseph and Adelheid (Kampwerth) Grapperhaus. She married Theodore "Dick" Goestenkors on October 4, 1933 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Highland and he preceded her in death on October 19, 1969. She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Bea Grapperhaus of Breese and Marie Grapperhaus of Trenton and by nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and her parents she was preceded in death by four brothers, Herman Grapperhaus, Joseph Grapperhaus, Lawrence Grapperhaus, and Alvin Grapperhaus; two sisters, Gertrude Rakers and Anna Grapperhaus; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Fred Rakers, Christine Grapperhaus, Marcella Grapperhaus, Henry G. & Clara Goestenkors, Theresa & Henry Wilke, Mary and Bernard Schrage, and Bernard & Anna Goestenkors; she was also preceded in death by several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Goestenkors and her husband were the former owners of Dick’s Tavern and Southside Tavern in Breese and they also owned and operated a farm. She was a member of St. Augustine Parish and Altar Sodality in Breese, a charter member of the Daughters of Isabella Precious Circle 718, a charter member and currently an honorary member of the St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary, a member of the American Legion Post 252 Auxiliary and the Breese Senior Citizens. Mayme enjoyed stamping quilts, quilting and baking. A funeral mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, January 11, 2010 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Breese with Rev. Chuck Tuttle officiating. Burial will follow at St. Dominic/St. Augustine Cemetery in Breese. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, January 10, 2010 and from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 11, 2010 at Hempen Funeral Home in Breese. The American Legion Auxiliary will visit at 7 p.m. followed by the Daughters of Isabella who will pray the rosary Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Augustine Parish or to the donor’s choice and will be received at the funeral home.
